About

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee, after he prayed to St. Jude for guidance and promised to build a shrine. The hospital was the first fully integrated children's hospital in the South, treating patients and employing staff regardless of race. St. Jude pioneered "Total Therapy" clinical trials for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), raising its survival rate from 4% to 94%. The hospital continues its mission to find cures for childhood catastrophic diseases, with no family ever receiving a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food.

ALSAC is the fundraising organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
